Dr. Newman, is it the unbelievable ignorance of HCP's that makes you
crazy. Or the bedazzlement of discussion! As a LLLL, when handling a
call regarding meds taken while BF, I have always asked the mom to
dialog with her HCP with these 2 questions: 1. Would you give this to a
pregnant woman that is ill? 2. Would you give this to a small infant
that is ill?
These questions get the mother to thinking about the situation. Yes, I
can look up the drug & tell mom what resources say, but that is then
2nd-hand to HCP. Nothing better than HCP having the resources to look
the med up themselves. Most HCP's either don't seem to do this or are
unwilling to keep up with current issues concerning BF as a whole. You
are wonderfully the exception. If you don't make to Florida with their
invitation, you would be welcome to Texas where there is a shortage of
Pediatricians in Denton.
