Donna L. Coe Writes>>>An older pediatrician once told me that the uric acid
crystals form during gestation, and once the infant starts taking in fluids,
they are flushed out.<<
How is this possible since the baby takes in (swallows) large amounts of
amniotic fluid every day and urination occurs in utero? A low level of
amniotic fluid can indicate that the kidneys/ bladder are not functioning.
Which brings to a question--Does anyone know of a good text/course on fetal
development? Even my texts from anatomy and physiology breeze over fetal
development, paying more attention to complications in pregnancy, fetal blood
flow and the like. Our neonatoligist tells me that if the baby has a problem
here--- then we need to check for a problem at XX because they develop at the
same time. (The ony one I remember is the three blood vessels in the cord and
the kidneys develop at the same time, if there's only 2 vessles in the cord
then the doctors always look for problems in the urinary tract.)
