I too thought of offering this mom IV abx, but if it is cancer, then she
should not delay, obviously.  Could this mom present herself in the ER of
another facility, maybe a univ. hosp. or teaching hosp? Where are you all
located?  Maybe she could get a quick referral to the right MD.  She may have
to bear the cost, though.  She could always try to get reimbursed if it turns
out to be something really serious.
