Just saw a mom with 4-mo old who has been having breast pain for the last 3
weeks. Described it as a throbbing pain in the breast she is nursing on
(right and left) only while she is nursing. Located in the upper part of the
top of each breast between 10:00 and 2:00. Does not have any pain or
discomfort BETWEEN feedings. Denies sharpness of pain, shooting, burning or
itching. Denies any nipple pain. She says she has felt fine, health-wise.
No lumps or redness on either breast. She has decreased her breastfeedings
to 3 times at night. Says it is less painful at night. Pumps with a Medela
hand pump and says she still feels pain when pumping, but it isn't as bad as
when she feeds. I am stumped. If she isn't having pain after or between
feedings and it is bilateral and not getting worse over the past three weeks,
I doubt yeast or mastitis. Any of you great minds have any suggestions? I
told her I would ask you. TIA
