Hello all: I am rather new to the internet as well as the Lactation
Consultant Business, having just passed the IBLCE exam in 1995 as well as
starting a rental station from my home in December of 1995. I have been
"lurking for several months now so I guess I had better introduce myself. I
have 3 children who were all breastfed and I have always been interested in
helping others to have the same wonderful experience that I had. Most of the
past 20 some years have been spent working with new moms and babies as a
Registered Nurse. The last 5 1/2 years I have taught prepared childbirth
classes through the local hospital as well as doing 1st and 3rd trimester
teaching. It became painfully obvious to me over the years how few
Breastfeeding Resources we had in this area, not only in the lack of support
and information but also in terms of breastfeeding supplies.Until starting my
own rental station, I was forced to send someone 40-60miles away for breast
shells or a breast pump, and for a hospital grade pump, even further. I have
also been involved in the Peer Counselor Program in my county as a volunteer.
I have gained even more knowledge by "lurking" for a few months on Lactnet,
although I am still not brave enough to "jump in" to the discussions yet.
Thank you all for your generous sharing of information and resources..
Nancy,from rural Upstate New York.
