Dear Janet: What a horror story. How about rx for Reglan (metoclopramide).
Works by increasing prolactin levels and I'll bet this poor mother's levels
are in the pits. Typical regimen is 10mg q8h for 10 days. Starts to work
day 3+. Am seeing excellent results (50-100% increase). Sorry -- have not
organized myself to keep stats but do follow each mom to see what the effect
has been.
I suggest Reglan only after pumping (and all the usual stuff) has been tried.
I suggest herbs when mother has a minor shortfall in supply or has a dislike
of drugs.
BTW, I read several postings recently re alfalfa being a good galactagogue so
bought some and took two capsules myself. (Not lactating -- thought I should
my mouth where my advice might be...) Easy to take if you can ignore the
smell of hay but very, very gassy. All that fiber?? For all of you who use
herbs regularly, can you tell me how the moms deal with this problem. Beeno?
