I'm looking at the April edition of Pediatric News. There is a
big babyfood advertisement (aimed at pediatricians, who are
the audience for this paper). The headline reads, "Which
Would You Rather Feed Your Own Baby?" and compares
the advertiser's brand (82% fruit) to the competition (49%
fruit). Since the food being touted is bananas, it doesn't take
a rocket scientist to figure out that buying, peeling, and
squishing a banana would result in the totally superior
product (100% fruit). The copy in the advertisement points
out "[the other brand] adds chemically modified starch and
sugar (empty calories)" but since they only add water, citric
acid and vitamin C they claim their product "has more
essential minerals, magnesium and potassium."
Sigh. (This ad qualifies for a sub-category of DUH
award).
The humor (to me) is their slogan: "The more you know about
baby foods the more you like..."
