i have not yet had a mom who purchased a pump in style have mold problems in
her tubing. however over the past 7+ years i have been renting pumps. i have
seen cases of all rentals company set ups, whiteriver, ameda/egnell and
medela, sometimes getting too much condensation in the tubing, (and getting
moldy looking spots). it doesnt matter if it has a filter, closed system or
collection bottle (i have seen it in all of them at one point or the other).

i tell my clients to take the tubing off the pump (when cleaning the other
parts), shake out any excess moisture, unscrew or disconect filters, and to
let the non-washed parts air out overnight. these simple steps have all but
eliminated mold complaints. The other suggestion is to shake out excess
water out of the collection bottles and flanges when finished washing and
rinsing to speed drying time and to decrease the chances of other things
growing in nonsterilized breastpump parts

These steps have not decreased the number of replacement parts that i have
sold to moms who had rented their pump from the local medical supply places
in the area. Seems that only "real" breastfeeding friendly depots carry
replacement parts. Funny there may have been no need to replace parts at all
if they had come to one of us in the first place.

Can everyone please type out the whole company name when talking about a
product, or abbrviation. your information and thoughts are very helpful. but
for me, late at night it is very hard to try and play "hangman" (a word
guessing game that you fill in one blank at a time) to figure out what the
heck is going one.

another thought.(last one i promise) since we have so many members from all
over the world, can we have lactnet members add thier city - state-provence &
country to there signature line. Since, if we miss their orginal sign on
introduction, it would be nice to put a place with your name.

TIA
