I just rec'd a message on my answering maching that a new bill has been
substituted and is scheduled to be voted on by the NJ Senate at its
session that starts at 11:30 pm on Thurs. Not sure what else is on the
agenda, if the school funding bill is, one only knows when the BF bill
will be up.
So, if you are from NJ, please call you senator and ask him/her to vote
on S1212.
Apparently, the proposed legislation is being moved from the civil rights
law and put into the criminal law. I'm not thrilled about this, b/c a
restaurant owner could tell you to leave, but could not have you
arrested. You would not be able to sue the restaurant owner for a
violation of your civil rights. However, you could not be arrested for
breastfeeding. Also, the bill apparently exempts BF moms from jury
duty.
According to the person who called me, (a head LLL person here in NJ)
they are satisfied with the bill. This bill would be better than
nothing. I have not seen it, so I cannot comment further.
