A reliable resource regarding parents sleeping with infants is William
Sears, MD. He is author of 'Nighttime Parenting' and 'Sids: A Parent's
Guide to Understanding & Preventing Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.' He
does quote studies, and as a pediatrician may be more acceptable to
others in the medical community. In August 'Parenting' magazine, the
article suggests many factors to consider. It is thought that mother may
act as "a respiratory pacemaker, her rhythmic breathing cuing baby to
do likewise." Of course, mother's wellbeing, freedom from alcohol &
drugs, etc. should also be considered. I slept with all three of my
nursing babies - what a restful, loving time!
