We are celebrating WBW here in Perth next week. since I was out of the
country for most of the planning, I was not on the planning commitee, but
wanted to share with all of you here. The commitee was made up of La Leache
League (LLL), Nursing Mothers Association of Australia (NMAA), Australian
Lactation Consultants Association (ALCA) and I believe the College of
midwives (sorry I don't know their official name).

The theme is "River of Gold" and there will be a gold fish net onto which
there will be ribbons of gold placed. Mothers can pay for a ribbon to be
placed on the fishnet- paying by the length of the ribbon- the length
representing the number of months breastfeeding a baby. (I've been nursing
almost non- stop for 18 years- so they will have to wrap the ribbon all over
me!).

The gold theme isn't to represent the Olympics, but rather the fact the
breastmilk is the "gold standard" for all infant food!

Many of you might remember the incident here in Perth a few months ago when
a nursing mother was told not to nurse on the public commuter train.
Westrail at that time gave a formal appology. Well, guess what? Westrail
is a major sponsor of World Breastfeeding Week!! They are providing (or
paying for) a large marquis (tent) for all of the activities to take place-
since it is winter and there's a good chance of rain- this is needed.

There will be all sorts of activities and, music, balloons, play group
activities and a fire truck! It will be a realy family/community affair!

So, next weekend think of us here in perth celebrating World Breastfeeding
Week! I would love to hear how others around the world are celebrating.
