Hi All,
Have a mom with a 11mo old BF baby (frequently BF!). Mom has a tumor/cyst,
non-cancerous, on her thyroid gland, size of a tennis ball. Tumor/cyst does
NOT affect the thyroid; thyroid is working normally. The tumor/cyst had
been drained twice.
Dr wants mom to start taking Synthroid, 50mg once a day in hopes of shrinking
the tumor/cyst. Dr wants to suppress moms thyroid by using the Synthroid, so
that moms thyroid will stop making its own hormones, the tumor/cyst will
maybe shrink, and she will then hopefully avoid surgical removal of the
tumor/cyst.
Mom is very concerned about babys reaction to the Synthroid and also her
physical because of a history of hormonal imbalances. (BTW, she is a
Medi-Cal mom)
Can anyone offer any advice? Mom would rather have the surgery than the
drugs.
TIA!
Jay
