Cindy, I would like to add one more thing that should be taught in a BF
class. Dispelling the myths. This is how I start the class. They take a
"pretest" to see what they know about BFg. Things such as: BFg women cannot
get pregnant, women have to avoid cabbage, beans, spices and caffeine, if
baby needs to nurse more often than 4 hours, mother's milk is not rich
enough. Then I explain that all these answers are false. Their jaws usually
hit the floor.
I just recently taught an entire staff (with one fam. pract. doc and several
PAs , nurses, health dept and WIC present!) about the basics of BFg. I
started this class the same way. The only one who got all of them right was
the receptionist!!
