Hi All,
I, too, sufferred with what Jan Barger coined to me as "meaty nipples",
this was post C/Section with epidural and yes, lots of IV fluids. My
areolae and nipples were "thick and meaty" very non-compressible. My
son has been scoped at birth and was very orally defensive (who can
blame him), that in conjunction with my nipples meant 2 days of pumping,
cup feeding and spoon feeding till all was well.
What I found somewhat helpful was cold compresses in the hospital to my
areola, this helped to relieve the thickening somewhat, followed by some
brief pumping prior to latch-on. The only real relief was time; it
took almost one week for all that fluid to leave my body. The cold
compresses were sent home from hospital with me (the kind that you "pop"
and they go immediately cold. Those were quite helpful.
