Thank you, Pat, for the information on biliary atresia. Fortunately,
this mom knows the condition is not a result of her feeding decision.
Mom noticed the baby seemed jaundiced and called attention to it for 3
months before the pedi finally did a heel stick.
To recap, baby is on a waiting list to receive a liver transplant.
Baby’s surgery was to give him some functioning bile ducts artificially
created from the small intestine. During surgery, it was noted that
the gall bladder was practically non-existent.
What we’re wondering is, would human milk be easier to digest than
artifical milk specially formulated to contain midchain triglycerides?
We realize this is not a condition that can be “cured” with human milk,
but we are wondering if baby could assimilate it better. Any thoughts?
