I've been following the recent thread about the licensing issue with
interest. Midwives have been going through this for quite awhile, and an
excellent process has been initiated to offer uniform accredidation and
testing by something called the North American Registry of Midwives(NARM).
The process is still undergoing refinement, but I am sure many of you would
be interested in what has been done to assure quality of education and
skills assessment, promotion of the exam as a universal standard on the
North American continent, exam design, grading, and validation, etc. If as
a group you decide to initiate this type of process, learning about some of
the struggles and triumphs of NARM may well help streamline your own
