Well folks, I had to chime in on this one. Thanks to Kathy B. for
explaining so eloquently why ABM companies have NO BUSINESS writing info
for breastfeding moms. A girlfriend of mine is expecting, planning on
breastfeeding, and has me for info (lucky her!) but was sent home with
the aforementioned Booklet by Ross. I am not sure if they have published
a more recent one, but this was maybe two months ago at most. The
booklet is copyright 1996. I do want to point out one potentially
misleading statement. "Breastfed babies do not need supplements of
formula or water for the first two to three weeks." As if they "need"
them afterwards??? I don't know what IBCLC would put that-- I know it
was a warning about nipple confusion in theory, but in practice, it comes
off sounding as if babies will NEED this stuff after two to three weeks.
THAT is misleading, and is exactly why ABM companies need to keep their
info to "how to sterilize you bottles" NOT "how to breastfeed your baby."
Just my $.02.
