I use vinyl gloves in conjunction with careful handwashing, as vinyl is
more permiable to viruses than is latex. I explain to parents that the
gloves are to protect their newborn from my kids' germs, then wear them
whenever having contact with the infant's mouth, mother's breast, or
sterile pump parts or devices. I prefer the sensory qualities of vinyl
over the awful taste and odor of latex, and the potential allergenicity.
