I think Bonnie Jones response re Melissa Brancho's sleepy baby (Mom on
terbutaline during pregnancy) is on track. She writes "A baby who is even a
few weeks early is likely to sleep a lot and be difficult to keep awake
during feedings. Since this mother was on Brethine (terbutline) and you
don't tell us the gestational age, my best guess would be that you are
dealing with prematurity."
What I am saying is whether Brethine causes feeding problems: it may BE so or
just SEEM so. That is why research is so important to tease out all the
confounding factors. There may be a CORRELATION between brethine use and
feeding probs but not a CAUSE & EFFECT relationship. IBCLC candidates: you
may get some research questions on the test like this re understanding of
research.
