Dear Lactnet,
Does anyone remember some discussion a while ago regarding a method
to bottle feed a bf baby that is less likely to confuse? I have been writing
Melissa Vickers about a situation with the mother of a (now 12 week old) baby
I am helping to go back to breast/relactate after 7 weeks of not nursing.
This mom has been trying alternative methods for a month, being careful to
follow baby's lead--going from finger feeding to cup feeding to bottle and
back again (even nipple shield). No doubt, all these things going into the
baby's mouth are upsetting to him. Mom would love to be able to settle on a
feeding method that is predictable for everyone, but baby gets so upset, mom
feels she needs to back up sometimes all the way to the bottle. Baby has
been through a lot--most lately having to have his circumcision redone--and
(to make a long story short) is now even balking about taking the bottle.
Melissa said this feeding method has something to do with putting pressure
on the lower lip to hold it to the bottle. Does anyone remember? I apologize
for not mailing the whole story--depending on my response from the list, I
may.
Thanks, Diane D. from VT
