This is my letter to the AAFP re: their corporate sponsorship for their web
page.
I am the co-owner of LACTNET, an e-mail list of over 1000 health
professionals interested in promoting breastfeeding and lactation throughout
the world. I am also a nurse and a Board Certified Lactation
Consultant.....we have many Family Practice Physicians on our list, and this
morning I read with disappointment a note from one of our Family Practice
Physicians that the web page of the aafp is sponsored by a company that
owns MEAD JOHNSON. This implies a close, working relationship between the
manufacturer of artificial baby milk and the AAFP..an appalling link.
It seems to me that an organization such as the AAFP could afford to put up
its own web pages, and not rely on donations from a company that violates
the WHO code?
This is certainly a depressing commentary on the corporate company that
family practice MDS choose to keep. It seems to me that money has too large
an influence on people in general, and physicians in specific, especially
money such as this that is made at the expense of babies and children
everywhere in the world. I find this a disgusting revelation. The AAFP
should be ashamed.
How can the AAFP, in all good conscience, promote and support
breastfeeding, *and* children's health, while standing on the shoulders of
this corporate monster? The two don't mix.
Regards, Kathleen Bruce BSN, IBCLC , Owner LACTNET
Their email address is [log in to unmask] I suggest that each and every one of
you who is outraged at this despicable relationship between Mead and AAFP
WRITE to them and tell them what you think.
