I hope this isn't redundant - I'm quite behind on reading posts, but I have
a great reason -- I just returned from Houston where the Texas Department
of Health's first Intensive Course on Breastfeeding - Lacatation Management
Workshop for Physicians was held. Instructors were Dr. Tom Hale (he was
great!), Linda Zeccola, RN, IBCLC, and myself - course coordinator was
Janet Rourke - director of Breastfeeding Promotion for Texas WIC. We had
six attendees for a 4 hour, AMA Category I credit course - all found it
helpful, and we found an ob/gyn who works with Dr. Ed Newton and plans to
get lots of ob/gyns to attend our subsequent courses. We'll be presenting
in Tyler, Texas in May, in San Antonio in June, in Harlingen in July, and
more will be scheduled. Our small registration for the first course
reflects late brochure mailings, and we expect many more doctors for our
subsequent courses. We'll be following with a series of teleconferences
for rural docs, and a self-paced workbook. Dr. Maryelle Vanlanden will be
helping us with an internet-based CME program as well.
So - we're trying to get Texas MD's better educated. So far, so good.

also - Dr. Hale mentioned at this course that injectable sumatripin (for
migraine) is so poorly absorbed in the GI tract that it should be
considered safe for breastfeeding moms to use. The infant has very little
delivered in milk, and absorbs almost none of that.
