I wish to add to Catherine's excellent summary that I heard Lucas speak a
couple of years ago about his Lancet study. He made a remark that
remained with me: he even accounted for the possibility that the mothers
who were willing to pump and provide their milk for their babies might be
special mothers who would in their parenting styles make the difference
in their children's development. There was a subgroup of mothers who
wanted to provide their milk, but were prevented from doing so by
circumstances beyond their control, such as geographic distance from the
hospital, etc. Their babies did no better than the other abm babies.
Food for thought, so to speak. Alicia. [log in to unmask]
