A few days ago there was a discussion on how to refer to artificial baby milks in relationship to human milk. I don't remember the exact phrasing, but I got the feeling that not many people were happy calling it "second best". I would like to propose that we designate ABM as a "last resort" resource. If I were given the choice I would first choose milk straight from my breast, my EBM as the second (preferably by SNS if possible), donated EBM (again by SNS if possible) as the third, a carefully screened wet-nurse as the fourth, and finally, ABM. I wonder which choices others wouls make? ABM is not (and IMHO never will be) a "breast milk substitute". At best, it is a substance that will suffice when human milk is not available.
