Valerie J. King, M.D. :
The biggest problem that I see is MD's discontinuing bf because of meds the
mother is on. "I wish that the pediatricians would protect bf, learn about
drug compatibilities, allow bf when it is really OK, and prescribe an
alternate med when available." I see many moms told to pump and dump after
C/S or because of hypertension because they are on antibiotics or other drugs
that really are compatible with bf. The mom is fearful of harming the baby
and will do as he says. Usually these moms pump and dump and feed ABM by
bottle, but then just give up and never get bf. These are moms who wanted to
bf and ended up giving it up for no good reason.
