Rose, You recently posted that you are working with a mom who is malnurished
and therefore the doctor doesn't want her to breastfeed because she is
"medically fragile". When my premature failure to thrive sone was
hospitalized (5 years ago), *I* was brought all meals and snacks as if I was
the patient. The hospital policy was that since he was being breastfed, and
we were paying for meals, *I* should be the one getting food. Also, I was
permitted to go to the cafeteria any time and get any food that I wanted.
This was the hospital policy. The mothers who were feeding got fed! I
think that such a policy could be a realy boost- especially considering that
the mothers of hospitalized babies are so stressed that they aren't usually
taking good care of their nutritional needs any way. Nancy Sherwood-
