A physician in a community even more isolated than mine has
contacted me asking for information on the risks of using gold injections as
treatment for rheumatoid arthritis in a lactating woman. The woman has 6
young children. She is fully breastfeeding her two month old infant. She is
experiencing a serious flare up of rheumatoid arthritis. I have researched
all of the most obvious places. AAP lists it as a list 6 which is acceptable
for use, but all other sources advise great caution or list it as
contraindicated. I have not found anything current (last 2 or 3 years). So
far to me the situation is as clear as mud. Basically the sources seem to
say use but monitor closely. I have forwarded what I have and said I would
pose the question to this group and keep researching. Does anyone have an
opinion, information or comments? Please feel free to respond to me
directly as the information is needed urgently.
