I too have been trying to figure out what is "proper" and what is not when a
formula company is involved in a breastfeeding presentation. IBLCE
(International Board of Lactation Consultant Examinors) has a policy on this
which is quoted here.
"IBLCE CERP credits may be awarded for relevant programs sponsored
by qualified providers so long as no manufacturer or marketer of
artificial infant feeding products or any other related person or
entity exercises any control over the choice of speakers, or
exercises any control over the content of the program. CERPs will
not be given for any presentation given by a speaker who has a
relationship with a manufacturer or marketer of artificial infant
feeding products."
This means that conference funding by a company does not, by itself,
prevent CERPs being allocated (or IBCLCs attending). You might like
to try to get more detail about the extent tothe formula company in this case
is chosing speakers or setting up the program. That is quite a
different matter to an independently organised conference accepting
some funding from a company which has no control over their programs
or speakers.
I was distressed to learn that one of the very highly thought of -oft
mentioned on Lactnet as global authority on breastfeeding- is speaking on
breastfeeding at a conference sponsored by a formula company.
