I was at a seminar where I heard that almost everywoman who has breastfed can
express drops of milk after weaning. There is no time limit. Sh had several
people in the audient raise their hands-- how many at 6 mo, 1 year, 2 years
etc The mmajority of hands stayed up. She went all the way to 5 years post
weaning--the hands stayed up. I'd bet if we do an informal survey here-- we
will find the same thing.
Expressing a few drops of milk is not glactorrhea!! Spraying, dripping,
engorement or leaking milk that occurs spontanously and bilaterally. Certian
pitutary and thyroid conditions can cause this. There are also drugs and
herbs that do this to both male and female.
However sometimes the simplest answer is the easiest. For example: ask the
mom if she has frequent stimulation of her breasts either during foreplay or
is she trying to express those drops daily, running, arm movements that brush
against the breast etc...
Ellen Vegh said the prolactin level was up. How high? Did they draw the blood
after ther breasts had been manipulated by the examiner? Did she have sex
before the blooddraw? I could go on. but I am sure you see the picture. A
level that is "slightly elevated" has multiple, normal causes, unless the
level is WAY UP, there probably isn't much to worry about.
