Here is a reference dealing with the feasibility of breastfeeding a newborn with
PKU:

Greves, Linda, et al "Breastfeeding in the Management of the Newborn with PKU: A
practical approach to diet Therapy" in Journal of the American Dietetic
Association, March 1994, volume 94 No. 3 pages 305-309.

The article supports the efficacy of combining phenylalanine(PHE) free formula
suppl. and breastfeeding with no excess PHE load to infant.
