I have a mother coming to my office for a short-term breast pump rental
tomorrow. Here is the scenario.
a) her baby has a bad cold and is congested.
b) Pedi put baby off breast and onto pedialyte!
c) Mother needs to pump to stay comfy and maintian supply for 1 week.
d) When I asked her if she knew that breastmilk killed germs and might help
with baby's nasal congestion if she squirted some in there, she reacted
badly to the suggestion.
e) When I asked her why she was giving pedialyte by bottle when bf was
easier for baby, she said she was following pedi's orders!
I want to know what to share with pedi when I send him my report that might
get him to reconsider a) pedialyte rather than breastmilk feeds in such a
situation.
Baby is 1 mo old.--and was screaming in background at first call and
whimpering in the background during second call.
Def. of LC service: "We are all faced with a series of great opportunities
brilliantly disguised as impossible situations."
