I understand there is a bill to UNDO the "mandatory spending" of a percentage of
the WIC funds for the promotion and support of breastfeeding. [ie. Curently
some of the $$ appropriated to a local WIC Program must be used on breastfeeding
related items -staff, literature, etc.; this bill would make that optional,
meaning that money may be spent on who-knows-what!] Apparently Senator Goodling
is involved - unsure if he is for this bill or against. Have others heard
anything about this? The vote may have been scheduled for Wednesday 6/12/96.
Please everyone contact your representatives and encourage them to support
breastfeeding promotion in the WIC program (especially people who are upset that
taxes continue to pay for ABM.) Remember "Breastfeeding --A Community
Responsibility." Let's prevent a step backwards....
