GASP!!! I cant beleive that nurses are still telling ppl this! I am also a
Registered Nurse, In addition to being an IBCLC, abd I still have a few
nurses that I work with that dont support breastfeeding the way I do, but
luckily they dont tell moms absurd things like that nurse you mentioned did.
They just refer all the patient to me! Which suits me fine :)
I may have some references for you, but I wont be at work till Tuesday, Ill
look then! Good Luck on "Teaching an old dog new tricks." I have a
pediatrician that I am currently working on to stop advising BF moms to
supplement! As he was discharging an Indian mom the other day (and their
culture is VERY PRO breastfeeding, eap if you have a son, and she did) I
over heard him say that she could just put the baby on formula because
babies had had formula for years and did ok, well fortunatly the mom wanted
to hear none of this! as I had worked extensively with her! Oh well... we
keep trying, dont we :)
