Help! I think I am dealing with a mom with a persistent yeast infection and
I'm running out of ideas. She received Cloxicillin X 14 days following a
C-Section. Presented with severe deep breast pain radiating to the back
occuring between feeds, and sore nipples. No visible thrush in babes mouth.
Had been treated with nystantin pill X 2wks., then nystantin liquid for
mother and baby x2 wks. This was followed by nyoderm cream, and cannestan.
We discussed gentian violet and diflucan with her and also gave her some of
Dr. Jack Newman's literature. She tried G.V. o.d. x3 days, then two weeks
later b.i.d. x 3days . She noted partial relief but remained quite
uncomfortable. She spoke with Dr. Newman, then started diflucan for 2 wks.
She no longer has any deep breast pain but still has sl. sore, sl. red
nipples. This may be partly due to the fact that the baby has started
"popping off" the breast or onto the nipple after about 4-5mins. esp. on the
rt. side and sometimes the left. Also occasionly fighting at the left. Babe
latches and nurses well at night when half asleep. No sign of ear infection.
Mom states gets good initial MER but thinks babe becomes impatient before
next one. Wt. gain, output all appropriate for a 3 mos. old. Mother says
Kenacomb ungt. (thanks Dr. N.), and not wearing a bra seems to have
eliminated most of the remaining pain at present. She wants to continue to
b.f. but is beginning to doubt herself as some feeds are such a battle. My
questions are: 1) Have we seen the end of the yeast? 2) Is that what has
led to this change in babes behaviour? & 3) What suggestions do you have
to improve this nursing relationship? This mother sure has earned it! Any
and all suggestions welcome! T.I.A. to all of you and to our co-owners for
making this forum possible. Excuse the length of this post. Diana Warfield

and the road crews are out on strike! Will someone please send us Spring!
