Dear Nancy,
I believe the article you are referring to is as follows:
Freed, GL. Clark SJ, Sorenson J et al. National assessment of physicians'
breastfeeding knowledge, attitudes, training and experience. JAMA
1995;273(6):472-6
This is a wonderful article. I cited it when I approached our medical
school, the University of Alberta, regarding medical student education. As
a result, I am now teaching the breastfeeding component. Each student will
receive three hours of education in small group sessions while in their obs
and gyn rotation.
I have already done the first group. They were great. They challenged me
on a number of points and we had an excellent dialogue going. I focused on
attitudes and the bottle feeding culture as much as on the technical points.
The evaluations were very positive and I can't wait until the next session!
