I have sat with women having abscess surgery and I agree that a vertical
incision is a lot less destructive. Interestingly, not only does it tend to
destroy only one duct, BUT it seems to heal up really nicely and with nary
a scar or one noticeable enough for the mother to care.  So much for the
plastic surgeon's need to be "neat" and do it along the areolar margin.
