It is standard protocol in our setting to order a breastfeeding consultation
for all women with a history of breast reduction or augmemtation surgery. We
usually monitor the baby's weight loss and output. It the baby looks good,
seems content and is stooling we usually feel comfortable waiting until the
mother's milk comes in. I usually see the couple between the 3-4th day
after discharge to evaluate the mother's milk supply. I must admit that if
at that point the baby is exhibiting any signs of poor intake I recommend
supplementing with an SNS.
