When I'm dealing with the usual mass market pumps, I qualify my
professional choice to recommend breast pumps that are manufactured by
"Breast Pump Companies"for the very reason that if they don't make the
safest, most efficient, comfortable BP the company would go out-of-
business FAST since they rely on BPs as their main source of market entry.
I ask the clients to look at the company that produces the pumps at the
dept stores etc and ask "What else do they make ?  ABM, bottles ,
highchairs, cribs, strollers ?  what would happen if they sell you a "less
than ideal"  BP ?  You'll buy alot of their ABM, bottles to the tune of
perhaps thousands of dollars if you don't Bf your children because you
can't pump effectively while at work ? I let the parents figure out for
themselves that a wimpy pump is a great marketing tool. I do share that in
my experience they will meet someone who swears by G--- or G--E-- or M--M--
etc
but they are pretty rare, 2 out of 3 moms give up pumping with one of these
in my area, they usually think they are starving their baby after they see
it take 30 mins to get a very painful ounce !
   I need to stress that I offer to teach all mom's I see "how to get the
milk out for free !!" your hands are always with you & only need to wash
well, and away you go, I was one of those mom's that couln't hand express
myself (though I tried with all three children), It used to make me
instantly nauseous !!!!! I have no problem handling mine or any one else's
breast on phys. exam. I've been touted as the nurse that CAN get milk from
a turnip !  p.s. I always wondered if my GI response to hand expression
isn't related to a history of sexual abuse, so for this reason I've felt
I've been sensitive to the many troubling reactions I
have seen in mothers related to touch "in general" and Bf "in particular".
I hope that my "healing through birthing and breastfeeding" can help other
mothers and those professionals who help the mothers and those
professionals who CAN'T help.
