Hello, I ahave been off the list for about two months while
dealing with modem snafus and changing internet providers. I
am glad to be connected again, have missed being able to use
this list as a resource.

As a means of reintroduction, I am an RN working in Ob in a
variety of settings and capacities on and off for past 26
years. I currently work part time in a small community
hospital (about 300 births/year) and am part of a committee
work on planning a lactation support staff position at the
hospital.

I have two requests to put to the list. The first is related
to LC training. We are hoping to be able to send at least one
staff member to one of the LC training programs. I am
interested in getting any feedback on expereinces/
recommendations on sites, etc. from any who care to share. I
have information from the UCLA scehdule, but am looking to
gather more options. We are developing a proposal for our
administration and want to include tuition and travel etc. so
we want to explore everything that is out there at this time.
Since it might border on recommending one program over
another, please email me separately at [log in to unmask]

I would also like to get some feedback or to be contacted by
any of you who are LCs and have a hospital based practice. We
are just in the beginning stages of developing the program
proposal and it would be nice to have some brains to pick as
we move forward. Questions we have include almost everything,
but especially things like: what is the minimum amount of
time needed to start a practice ( in other words in the
numbers are small can we justify a part time position or is it
difficult to do PT)? what kind of caseload numbers /FTE seem
to work best? have any of you worked on joint practices
between hospitals and clinics, hospitals and public health,
other mixes? What fees do you charge, and how does insurance
respond, similar to other patient education or consultation?

Again, I will likely post specific questions to the list as we
move forward, but if there are any of you out there who are in
similar situations and would be willing to bea resource,
please e-mail me at [log in to unmask]
