A birth assistant from the birth center in Indianapolis gave me this info.
from a Natural Healing journal and I have found it to be helpful so I
thought I'd share it...........since we have had a Few posts regarding
pseudephedrine and decongestants. This may be a well known remedy and got
lost or forgotten: Place a drop of peppermint oil on child's collar and he
will not awaken due to congestion. We tried this last night since as a
child Vick's was always on hand and the menthol is used in OTC remedies. My
son and I are recovering from bronchitis which now is heading out in form
of a sinus infection....happily almost recovered. Anyway, the peppermint
really "cleared the air" and breathing was a breeze for both of us.

BTW,I had asked about the pseudephedrine and effects on milk supply, and to
date that drug has Not been a factor--the mom in question is supplying well
and babe is gaining well.

What are the problems of using oil of peppermint? There is a warning on
label which states :"Do not use directly on skin as it may cause severe
skin irritation." I purchased the tiny bottle for $7.50 at a chain store
Garden Botanica but I'm sure it's a common oil.

Does anyone use this oil when working with preemies?I think I heard it at
a conference in Boston 5 years ago and maybe it was spearmint? Marsha would
know. Happy Holidays.
