Okay, okay, I realize that by posting this I'm admitting that I watch a soap
opera (sometimes :)). But did anyone see All My Children today? There's a
couple, Maria & Edmund, who are adopting a newborn from Kelsey, a teenage
runaway. The baby's a day or two old and is "failing to thrive", "allergic to
the protein in cow's milk formula", they've tried a soy formula and the baby
had a reaction to that, the next step is an IV for hydration, UNLESS the mother
would be willing to breastfeed the baby. Some good, accurate facts about the
benefits of BM to infants and mothers. When they asked the mother if she would
consider breastfeeding for the baby's sake, at first she was repulsed, said it
was gross and icky, but finally agreed to "give it a try". I can't wait to see
tomorrow how that goes! Maria, the adoptive mother, even said "after all, it's
why we have breasts".

There was no mention made, however, of the option to pump and feed EBM to baby.

Just glad to see breastfeeding handled in an accurate, educational manner.

Kudos to ABC!
