It can be very hard to believe that breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast
cancer when we see someone who breastfed still get the disease. However,
reduced risk is not the same as preventing it from happening. There are many
factors in how much brf reduces the risk - I remember at one time studies
looked at how long the mother breastfed her first child. A recent study
indicates that if all women breastfed all their children for two years each,
that breast cancer could decline 25% in this country. Another study
indicates that women under the age of 20 who breastfeed just 6 months reduce
their risk by over 50%. And I do know (although I don't have the cite to
this handy) that breastfeeding reduces the child's risk of breast cancer.
So, yes, her breastfeeding may reduce her child's risk of developing breast
cancer.
