Melody,
Welcome to Lactnet! You write:
>> All too often, WIC moms are stereotyped and I agree there are some pretty
neat women on WIC. It was especially rewarding to see how BF and peer
counselor training can build self-esteem and lead to positive changes in
these women's lives.<<
Thanks you so much for that statement!
I am a WIC mom as well as a WIC PC. I counsel our crisis moms that have our
Lactinas out on loan. You are so right about the self esteem issue. I had a
horrible time beginning a BF realtionship with my youngest son, long story
(e-mail me at [log in to unmask] if you want the details!), and because of that
I decided to help other moms NOT go through what I went through. WIC PC
training was the best place to start! After the training, I got hot and
heavy into the counseling thing, and made it clear that I wanted to do more.
My WIC sent me to a CLE course, and wil be a CLE as soon as I get my
certificate in the mail (Hurry up Mr Mailman!)! Also, I am well on my to
IBCLC. Our WIC and 2 other WICs are having a joint PC training starting Jan.
27, and guess what? I get to help teach! I am so excited! I got to do all
of my WICs interviews to get the best PC candidates, and I had a lot of input
on who we will be training. This whole program has been such a help to me,
that I have been able to be a real help to other moms. I also run a pump
station, and my work at WIC has helped give me the confidence to do that as
well!
So, thanks for your recognition!
Jay
