Fellow Lacnetters,

For the last few years, I have found it interesting that the only
subject that people seem to be talking about when discussing using
oral contraceptives while breastfeeding is the effect on milk supply.
I would really like to see some discussion on the potential harm of
using synthetic steroids (that are not exactly like those naturally
produced) on the infant. I have actually read the product inserts on
several of the contraceptives currently "accepted" for breastfeeding
women; they do not suggest that the product be used until the infant
is weaned. Any comments from those of you with more expertise than I
have?

TIA,
Shelley McGuire, PhD
