My husband, a gastroenterologist, says that lactose intolerance is probably
one of the most OVERdiagnosed conditions in babies and most UNDERdiagnosed in
adults! Around here we contend with peds who prescribe L_____ drops to be
given directly to the baby after each nursing session. These drops are only
to be added to milk and are not approved for oral use in infants! The peds
are recommending 3-4 drops after each nursing - enough for gallons of milk!
Did anyone see the C____ formula ad re lactose intolerance? There was a full
page ad in a parenting magazine saying that their ABM was the most easily
digested and that moms don't need a special lactose free formula. On the
opposite page was a column stating that lactose intolerance is almost unheard
of in infants and that there have been less than 50 documented cases
worldwide!
