I just read Jeanine's post to Jay about the mother who wanted to pump
*before* birth and bring the colostrum to the hospital...
Someone on Lactnet recently referred me to a book called How to Have a
Smarter Baby (or thereabouts) in reference to a question I posted about
post-birth routines and baby's vision, etc. In reading that section, I
ran across something else that really stopped me in my tracks: the author
also recommends that moms pump some colostrum, freeze it, and bring it to
the hospital at delivery time. They assume the usual protocols take place
after birth, and recommend that the parents uncover the sample and place
in baby's crib near his nose so that he can smell mom's milk while in the
nursery and be "ready" to nurse! If this is a popular book, you may hear
such a request for help from moms on occasion.....
