Hi all!
I have a Mom who has been BF fine for four months now and has plans to keep
BF to 1 yr. and beyond. Yesterdaay her menstral cycle kicked in for the
first time since she got pregnant. The problem is, the baby absolutely
refuses the breast.
I've heard of this--that the milk might have a different flavor,
that she might smell different, that things should get back to normal after
her cycle, but I've never actually come across it until now.
The only info I can find talks about decrease in milk supply during
this time. This doesn't seem to be the problem. Mom has been feeding EBM
and pumping. I've advised to keep trying to get the baby back on the brest,
but not to press the issue for very long, because forcing a crying,
thrashing baby at the breast is asking for a nursing strike. I've also
asked her to try to feed some of the milk she just pumped.
Any other ideas? Anyone?
