Hello! My name is Brenda Griffin and I have been a BF counselor for
WIC for two years now. I've been lurking on lactnet for a couple of weeks
without much to add, but here's what I have to offer:
In cases of very persistant thrush in the Mom, it is important to
remember that sometimes the baby does indeed have thrush, but that it is
a-sympthomatic. If you can find a Ped. to go along with it (some will, some
won't) Treat both Mom and Baby regardless of who is showing what sympthom.
My sources say boil all pumping equipment that comes in contact with
the infected nipple. Clean hands, breastpads, bras, etc are also important.
All pumped milk should be fed immediately and never frozen, so as
not to re-introduce the infection at a future point.
Also, I met a Mom and baby who had re-occuring thrush. Nothing
worked to clear up the problem. Finally, tinture of violet was prescribed.
Lo and behold, I met the family a couple of days later out of my work
environment--Dad had the deepest purple mouth I'd ever seen--maybe we need
to treat Mom, Baby, and Dad!!!
Somewhere in my portable office, I have suggestions for deep, moist
healing. If the thrush has indeed been wiped out, maybe what's happening is
that the cracks are healing from the outside-in, instead of the other way
around. If anyone needs this moist healing info. I would be happy to try
to put my hands on it. E-Mail me at [log in to unmask]
