I just have to mention this--- about a year ago, I visited a mom whose
baby was not breastfeeding well, or so I figured out after this social
visit. Mom thought it was ok because you could hear "swallows", but on
closer observation I could tell that baby did not draw in the nipple!
Somehow, this kid would open up, look like he latched on, but would kick
the nipple out with his tongue (tongue thrusting?). With the nipple
sitting only by his gums, he would attempt to nurse, and actually made
swallowing sounds that had me perplexed for quite a while. At any rate,
it behooves anyone doing such charting to note whether baby is *truly*
latched on when "swallowing", since I've seen this wonderful little fake.
