URGENT ACTION NEEDED
Nestle Speaker at CDA- ADA Joint Conference, Banff, May 1996
The Canadian and American Dietetic Associations are planning a joint
conference in Banff, Alberta from May 18 to 21, 1996.
One of the speakers will be Ms Marilyn Knox - Senior Vice-President
Corporate Affairs, Nestle Canada.
Given that:
*Nestle is the world's leading marketer and distributor of artificial
baby milks and infant foods
* Nestle continues to blatantly violate the International Code of Marketing of
Breast-Milk Substitutes in countries around the world.
*Nestle aggressively targets pregnant women and new mothers with
breast-milk substitutes through direct advertising and free samples
across North America
* North American artificially-fed babies suffer from increased rates
of infectious diseases, chronic diseases, auto-immune diseases, lower
IQ, a higher mortality rate and are more frequently hospitalized and
that women who artificially feed their babies are denied the health,
economic and psychological benefits of breastfeeding
*WHO and UNICEF report one and a half million infant around the
world die, and many more millions malnourished because they were not
breastfed.
Please ask the CDA and the CDA to remove the Nestle speaker from the
conference programme.
